AVALANCHE! Institute of Contemporary Art is proud to present Contemporary Cowboy, an exhibition of new works by Jeremy Pavka and Karly Mortimer, as part of Exposure: Calgary Banff Canmore Photography Festival 2013.

An ongoing photographic investigation of “the West” and our interactions with it, Contemporary Cowboy appropriates the once precious items of the maverick cowboy to recontextualize and reveal tropes of a misunderstood history, as chaps, guns, bone, and hats once used as invaluable tools for stewards of the land become associated with dominion, power, and sex.
